THE second SNP regional assembly date and location has been confirmed.
The assembly follows on from the recent SNP Independence Convention in Dundee, at which Humza Yousaf set out his proposals.
Yousaf wants the party to present a manifesto for independence at the next election, and if the SNP win seek negotiations with the UK Government on how to give “democratic effect” to securing independence.
The assemblies, touted by Humza Yousaf during his leadership campaign, are designed so SNP members can influence the direction of the journey to independence.
This is the second announcement so far, with one organiser telling The National the party plans to hold one in each of the eight electoral regions.
The North East assembly is on August 12 in Stonehaven town hall in Aberdeenshire. It will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm.
It is unclear whether this event will be livestreamed to the wider membership.
The event page says: “It is an important day to discuss how we take our path to independence forward using the next General Election. Each constituency association/constituency branch are allocated 16 tickets each: 14 tickets for physical attendance, two online attendance.
“We suggest you acquire 16 tickets and allocate accordingly. Affiliate groups are allocated one ticket per group.
“Please send us the names and SNP IDs of all who will attend.”
South of Scotland will see its assembly held on August 26 at The Bridge in Dumfries.
This event is scheduled to run from 10am to 4pm and Humza Yousaf will join independence minister Jamie Hepburn, deputy leader of the SNP Keith Brown and regional SNP MSP Emma Harper speaking at the event.
