Second Rice bid, Havertz compromise and Caicedo alternative - Arsenal transfer truths explained

The transfer window continues to throw up twists and turns as Arsenal progress with their plan to strengthen the squad. Priorities in midfield and defence have seen some deviation from the plan with the Gunners moving for a high-profile Chelsea revival story.

Bids have been rejected and talks are continuing with multiple players. However, with all the chaos it can sometimes be difficult to keep track so football.london have taken a look at all the players with major links to the club to provide the outline on whether the Gunners have made a move or not, yet.

Declan Rice

Arsenal have had a £90 million bid for Declan Rice rejected. The offer was comprised of a guaranteed £80m sum, which football.london understands was spread over a six-year period with at least £10m in add-ons included.

West Ham are not keen for add-ons to be weighted on Arsenal’s success in winning either the Premier League or Champions League football.london understands. Another bid is expected in excess of £100m including add-ons but Manchester City are considering their own avenue of a deal.

Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City included Ilkay Gundogan on their list of players that will be released at the end of the month with the expiration of their contract. However, the club want to sign the German international up to a new deal.

An offer has been made by Arsenal to Gundogan. Barcelona and clubs from Saudi Arabia have also made offers but the midfielder is yet to come to an agreement with any club so far.

Kai Havertz

Arsenal have had a bid of £55m including add-ons rejected for Kai Havertz. Negotiations over a price are continuing with Chelsea and there are no concerns on personal terms with the player keen on a move to work with Mikel Arteta.

Chelsea want a figure close to £70m, although Arsenal aren’t willing to go to this level. A compromise is hoped to be reached and interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid has not materialised into an official approach thus far.

Moises Caicedo

Arsenal remain interested in Moises Caicedo, football.london understands, but so far have made no approach this summer in regard to a potential deal. Chelsea meanwhile continue talks with Brighton after having a reported £60m bid already rejected.

Romeo Lavia

With Caicedo seemingly too expensive, an alternative cheaper target has emerged in Romeo Lavia. The Belgian international is of interest to the club and with Southampton relegated a deal for the midfielder is possible for significantly less than the Ecuadorian but no offer has yet been made by Arsenal.

Ivan Fresneda

Arsenal are still interested in Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda as they intend on bringing in a right-sided defender this summer, football.london understands. However, with the priority on the midfield, all resources are in this regard and once the sagas of Rice and Havertz are concluded, profiles in the back line will take a greater focus, although strong interest from Borussia Dortmund in the Spaniard is genuine and could be an obstacle for the Gunners.
