Second Man City signing of summer confirmed as player announces move

AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Spike Brits has confirmed his move to Manchester City.

The England youth international, 16, has completed his transfer to last season's treble winners. City agreed a club record academy fee for the young shot-stopper earlier this month and the move has now gone through.

Brits, who has been at the club since under-nine level, shared the exciting news on Instagram writing: "Delighted to have signed for @mancity and proud to call Manchester my new home! It's time to get started, can't wait! Let's go, City!"

His exit comes as a blow to the League Two side, with the club having lost England youth stars Archie Stevens to Rangers and Leon Chiwome to Wolves in the last year too. Nonetheless, a move to City was a chance the club could not deny Brits of.

"This is a bittersweet moment for us as an academy, because Spike is someone who we've seen develop from being a young boy to a young man," Dons academy boss Michael Hamilton told the club website. "And that story would have had a beautiful ending, if he had progressed and played for the first team.

"This opportunity affords him the chance to take his potential into an elite environment, it's an opportunity of a lifetime. Spike’s love for goalkeeping has been there long before a pair of gloves fitted him but his mindset over the last 36 months or so is an example to all young players."
