Man's car park death leads to more murder charges

Another man has been charged over a fatal stabbing in a shopping centre car park that police allege was a drug deal turned robbery.

Police believe the 21-year-old victim arrived at the car park in the Gold Coast suburb of Hope Island on March 11 to supply drugs to another man.

But the victim was robbed and fatally stabbed with a kitchen carving knife, police allege.

A 24-year-old Hope Island man, who was initially arrested on March 11 and released, has been charged with murder and robbery.

He is the second person to be charged over the incident.

Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said police had a "clearer picture" of what happened before, during and after the fatal stabbing.

"We're not alleging that the second defendant had any involvement in the murder itself but he was implicit in planning a robbery, which ultimately led to the deceased being stabbed," he said.

The 24-year-old is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

A 23-year-old Redbank Plains man was earlier charged with murder and remains before the courts.

Police believe the 23-year-old man and the victim had met briefly at a music concert on the weekend before the incident but apart from this they did not know each other.

Det. Insp. Mooney said anyone with information should contact police.
