Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Sunday that the state will be launching a separate investigation into the alarming incident where a second gunman managed to get dangerously close to former President Donald Trump. The incident occurred while the former president was enjoying a round of golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The U.S. Secret Service took action when they spotted Ryan Wesley Routh, who was reportedly armed with a rifle, within 300 to 500 yards of the former president. Routh was seen attempting to breach the security perimeter by pushing the muzzle of his rifle through a chain-linked fence. It was at this point that the Secret Service agents made the decision to open fire on Routh to neutralize the threat.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Routh was carrying a GoPro camera and two backpacks at the time of the incident. Following the shots fired by the agents, Routh attempted to flee the scene in a black Nissan but was swiftly apprehended by authorities.
