A second body has been discovered near Sydney Airport, just a week after the remains of a young woman named Zhuojun “Sally” Li were found in the same area.
The body, believed to be that of her husband Jai-Bao “Rex” Chen, was found in Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany around 2pm on Tuesday. However, authorities have not yet formally identified the body.
Last week, the body of 33-year-old Zhuojun “Sally” Li was found wrapped in plastic in bushland near the airport on December 9. Police have been treating her death as a homicide and launched a desperate search for her husband Chen, also 33.
Detective Superintendent and the Homicide Squad Commander Danny Doherty, had previously expressed “grave concerns” for Chen’s welfare. Now, with this latest discovery, those concerns seem to have taken a devastating turn.
The investigation, that falls under Strike Force Zygon, continues to probe the circumstances surrounding both deaths. Investigators remain particularly interested in a silver Toyota Avensis spotted on the northern side of Foreshore Road in Botany between 4am and 5am on November 30, which is not registered to either Li or Chen.
The couple lived in Greenacre and had no known links to organised crime or history of domestic violence as reported by 9News.
Superintendent Doherty is expected to address the media later today, hopefully shedding more light on this developing story.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
