Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has made significant progress in restoring its computer systems following a cyberattack that occurred three months ago. The airport is now almost fully operational, just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel season.
While the computer systems have been successfully restored, airport officials have mentioned that there are still ongoing efforts to transfer some content to the new system. The Port of Seattle, which manages the airport, has advised travelers that certain sections of the airport's website may still be under construction or have information that is being updated.
The cyberattack, which targeted the port's central computer system on August 24, initially disrupted ticketing and baggage handling systems, leading to flight cancellations and delays for several airlines. In response, the airport deployed additional staff to assist passengers and provide information as flight status boards remained offline for an extended period.
Despite the challenges posed by the cyberattack, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport remains a key transportation hub, ranking as the 11th busiest airport in the United States according to the FAA's latest data.
