A New Brighton seafront attraction has turned around its food hygiene rating, just days after it was revealed the venue had scored zero stars in a previous inspection.
Riverside Bowl and Laser Quest, on Marine Promenade in New Brighton, Wirral, was given the worst possible food hygiene rating after an inspection on February 22. The zero star score was published on March 31, but the venue’s rating has already been updated.
After a fresh inspection on April 1, Riverside Bowl and Laser Quest received a four star food hygiene rating, the second best possible score. No further details of the reasons behind this major improvement have been revealed and the full inspection report from Wirral Council is not yet available.

Last week, the ECHO reported the zero star rating from the February 22 inspection. Although the full report was not available, some information was published along with the rating.
Inspectors concluded urgent improvement was necessary in the areas of ‘management of food safety’ and ‘cleanliness and condition of facilities and building’. The next worst rating, major improvement necessary, was the verdict on ‘hygienic food handling’ at the premises.
Last week, a spokesperson for Riverside Bowl and Lazer Quest said there was an issue when inspectors visited the site, but it was rectified overnight. They added the inspector saw the premises the next day and was “very happy” with what they saw.
The spokesperson added they will get reinspected imminently and move back towards the five star rating the business had previously. Riverside Bowl and Lazer Quest was approached for comment on the new rating.
