A woman has been charged after allegedly leaning out of a vehicle and pointing a gel-blaster pistol at another car on the M1 motorway on the northern Gold Coast.
Police say a woman was travelling in a black Toyota LandCruiser when she allegedly pointed a silver gel-blaster gun at a white car at 9.30am.
Witnesses said both vehicles were travelling close to each other when the white car appeared to swerve towards the LandCruiser, according to Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn.
A motorist called police when they saw a woman lean out of one of the LandCruiser's windows with what appeared to be a firearm.
Inspector Ahearn said the LandCruiser left the M1 near Stapylton and police intercepted the vehicle near Quinns Hill Road at about 11am.
Police said they spoke to two men and a woman, who were in the car, and found a silver gel-blaster in the centre console.
A gel-blaster is an air-powered toy gun which shoot beads of water.
The 27-year-old woman was charged with one count of dangerous conduct with a weapon.
"It could be the case where it's simply a road rage incident between the two unknown parties," Inspector Ahearn said.
He said producing a pistol in public was worrying behaviour.
"[Gel-blasters] have a similar appearance to a normal firearm, and when they are produced in public they cause significant public alarm," he said.
He said police were unsure whether the gel-blaster was fired or whether there was any damage to the car.
The driver of the white vehicle has not come forward or lodged a complaint.
No injuries have been reported.
Anyone with relevant dashcam footage or information has been asked to contact Gold Coast police.
