Search stood down for missing teen on Achill island after body found

The search for an 18-year-old teenager who went missing on Achill Island in Mayo has been stood down after a body was found.

Sebastian Palma Sigmond was last seen by his family at around 5pm on Friday evening, when he left to go for a walk in the Dooagh area.

It is understood he had been on holiday and was visiting relatives who lived on Achill Island.

Members of the Coast Guard and Civil Defence were heavily involved in the search.

But last night, Gardai said: “Following the discovery of a body in the Dooagh area of Achill on the evening of Sunday 9th July 2023, the missing person appeal for Sebastian Palma Sigmond has been stood down.

“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.”
