Search for missing woman in forest enters second day

Samantha Murphy went missing in Ballarat East, Victoria on Sunday. (HANDOUT/VICTORIA POLICE)

Crews continue to search for a woman who disappeared when she went on a run during a hot weather in Victoria.

Samantha Murphy was last seen leaving her property on Eureka Street in Ballarat East to go for a run in Canadian State Forest about 7am on Sunday.

Her family and police hold concerns for the 51-year-old's welfare due to the hot weather, with temperatures reaching 36C in the area on the day.

Her disappearance is out of character, police said.

State Emergency Service crews and police have been searching the state forest behind Buninyong Golf Club since Monday.

The ground search resumed on Tuesday with the Search and Rescue Squad bringing in the dog squad, mounted police and air units.

Forest Fire Management Victoria and Parks Victoria personnel are also involved.

Ms Murphy is Caucasian, about 173cm tall with a slim build and shoulder-length blonde hair.

She was last seen wearing black half-length leggings and a maroon or brown singlet.
