Search for man who intervened during sexual assault at Twickenham station

Police are appealing for a witness to an alleged sexual assault at Twickenhan railway station to come forward.

On May 4, the victim was standing on her own at Twickenham railway station when she was approached by a man at around 7pm. The man then proceeded to sexually assault her, British Transport Police said.

The victim alerted the witness to the assault and he intervened, causing the suspect to run away.

Police believe the witness attended the Army Navy Match, an annual rugby game between the Royal Navy and British Army, at Twickenham Stadium earlier that day.

British Transport Police Detective Sergeant Marc Farmer said: "A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody.

"We believe the witness who intervened might have attended the Army v Navy rugby fixture earlier in the afternoon.

“I would like to stress that he is not suspected of any criminal activity, however we do believe he has vital information that could help our investigation."

If you are the man who intervened, or if you have any information that could help, the British Transport Police ask you to contact them by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 with the reference 622 of 04/05/2024.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
