A man remains missing after he was washed off the beach in the Gold Coast suburb of Miami.
Police were called to Lifeguard Tower 22 near Marine Parade just after 6pm on Thursday following reports a wave knocked the man over while he was fishing and he could not regain his footing.
Police said members of the public attempted to reach the man but were unsuccessful as he was dragged out to sea.
A land, sea and air search commenced shortly afterwards to find the man but with no success.
The search will resume at first light on Friday morning.
