SEARCH efforts have been stood down following a multi-agency hunt for a downed aircraft in the North Sea.
The RNLI Eyemouth lifeboat joined HM Coastguard, several aircraft and two vessels in their search yesterday following a distress signal.
No sign of the aircraft has been found by search parties.
Lifeboat crews had just returned from bringing a casualty yacht to Eyemouth harbour in the Borders before heading back into the North Sea to assist.
The Eyemouth lifeboat returned to harbour following a ten-hour search.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “At 1.30pm on August 13, HM Coastguard received a report of a possible downed aircraft in the North Sea.
“A coastguard helicopter, coastguard fixed wing aircraft, Eyemouth RNLI lifeboat and two vessels that were in the area were sent.
“A thorough search was carried out with nothing found and the search has been stood down.”
