The final UFC title fight of 2023 saw the belt stay put around the waist of Leon Edwards with his defense against Colby Covington in the UFC 296 main event.
Edwards (21-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) registered his second welterweight title defense with a somewhat uneventful unanimous decision victory over Covington (17-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and now his undefeated streak sits at 13 consecutive fights.
Although Belal Muhammad should be at the front of the line when it comes to the next title shot, Edwards (23-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC) showed minimal interest in a rematch of their March 2021 fight that ended in a no contest due to an eye poke. But if it’s not Muhammad, who else is worthy of fighting for the 170-pound strap?
