Sean Payton Had Heated Exchange With Reporter After Broncos Gave Up 70 Points in Loss

Just a few months after making critical comments about the job Nathaniel Hackett did in Denver, frustrations are seemingly mounting for Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

Payton snapped at a reporter during Sunday’s postgame press conference following the team’s humbling 70-20 defeat against the Dolphins.

When a reporter began listing stats in order to provide context for a question about the historically bad nature of the loss in Week 3, Payton seemingly ran out of patience.

“I’m aware. What’s the question?” barked Payton, via Henry McKenna of Fox Sports. “What’s the question? I just finished telling you. Next question.”

The loss sees Denver fall to 0-3 on the year. After losing by one point in Week 1 and two points in Week 2, the Broncos were outscored by 50 during Sunday’s game.

When expanding on the loss, the 59-year-old lamented his team’s performance, calling it “embarrassing” and “tough to watch.”

“It’d be one thing for us to say, ‘hey, we’re going to get onto the next game,’ but we have to watch that tape. Tomorrow will be tough for a lot of players, tough for us too as coaches,” said Payton, via Troy Renck of Denver7.

Miami became the fourth team in league history to score 70+ points, and they were just a couple of points shy of the NFL’s all-time single-game scoring record, set in 1966. Washington scored 72 points against the Giants.

Payton and the Broncos have a lot of work to do before Week 4’s tilt against the Bears, who have also struggled to start the year.
