Sean Morrison's perfect deadline day text to Steve Morison after Cardiff City sealed 'fantastic' Middlesbrough signing

The signing of Uche Ikpeazu certainly got the seal of approval from Cardiff City's captain.

The Bluebirds announced the signing of the Middlesbrough striker on loan until the end of the season deep into deadline day.

The Boro man was brought in to assuage the loss of Kieffer Moore, who forced through a move to Bournemouth on Monday after tabling a transfer request.

And it's fair to say that both captain and manager were happy they got the Ikpeazu signing over the line.

"He will bring everything you saw from him at the end of last season. For me, it’s a fantastic signing," Morison said.

"When Sean Morrison texts you at 11pm to say ‘Make sure he is on my team for everything!’ you know you’d rather have him with than against you.

"We spoke to Boro at the start of the window but that wasn’t feasible because they wanted a permanent and that didn’t materialise.

"We had it on the backburner and we were looking into it and once Kieffer forced that through it made sense.

"He had offers elsewhere and he picked us. It’s great. There’s another person in the building with a point to prove."

The Bluebirds skipper has previous in this department, of course.

After Ikpeazu's bulldozing performances for Wycombe Wanderers against Cardiff last season, Morrison was left battered and bruised.

In fact, when Neil Warnock signed him for Boro back in the summer, the former Cardiff boss revealed what his former captain said about the transfer.

“We’ve signed Uche. I can’t tell you his other name. I just call him big man on the training ground and he knows who I mean," Warnock said after Ikpeazu's move to Teesside.

“I really do like him. Yes, he’s gangly and maybe a little bit uneasy on the eye, but he’s so determined and such a great lad. He’s so passionate.

“He had good offers from elsewhere as well I believe, but he said he’d followed my career at Cardiff and others and he knew Middlesbrough, so he always wanted to come here.

“I talk to a lot of people all over our league - people like Sean Morrison, for example.

“I asked him about strikers when I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and Uche had put him on the deck and done his knee the first game against him, then he did his shoulder or his elbow second game.

“He didn’t know I was going to sign him, but he was saying ‘flaming heck, I wish we’d got him. He put me on the deck three times’.

“I thought, ‘he’ll do for me’.”

Finally, Morrison has his wish.
