The Rams haven’t yet put the pads on for practice yet and won’t until training camp, so evaluating players up to this point is a bit challenging without hitting and full contact. But during these OTA sessions, Sean McVay is watching how rookies work each day and so far, he likes what he sees.
McVay shared some early thoughts on the Rams’ rookie class, salling them a mature group with a good look in their eyes.
“These are guys that you hope can become pro’s pros. They’re approaching things the right way,” he said. “They’re mature rookies, they’ve got a good look in their eye, they know how to come out and go to work. They know, ‘Hey, I’m gonna look at what these other veterans are doing and be able to mimic and emulate that, but put my own spin on it.’ And these guys like football, and that’s really important. The types of players and people we want to be able to onboard, so in these settings, you can appreciate how they work, how they handle things in the classroom. And then once we get to Irvine is where we’ll all be able to have a much better feel for when we’re playing real competitive 11-on-11 in a lot of the team settings, that’s when a lot of good things can come to life.”
Logan Bruss has been getting some work with the starting offensive line, an encouraging sign for the Rams’ top pick in the draft. McVay said to take that with a grain of salt because they have limited bodies up front right now, but it’s still good to see.
Getting much out of their rookie class this year could be difficult because of how late their picks were in the draft, but Bruss, Decobie Durant and Kyren Williams could all be early contributors.
