Sean McVay’s fiancee confirms he isn’t retiring from coaching this year

Much has been made about the potential retirements of Sean McVay and Aaron Donald for the Los Angeles Rams. Ahead of the Super Bowl this past Sunday, there were reports that McVay and Donald could both elect to walk away if the Rams won the Super Bowl.

After McVay and Donald were both quoted for saying ‘run it back’ during the team’s championship parade on Wednesday, Veronika Khomyn — McVay’s fiancee — took to Instagram to silence the retirement rumors even more.

McVay is in line for an extension this offseason, so I never assumed that there was any truth to the rumors of him potentially stepping away from coaching. Money talks and while McVay has spoken about getting burned out at times, this has more to do about him ensuring the Rams hand him a worthwhile extension rather than him discovering what he wants to do after coaching.

The same can be said about Donald as the All-Pro interior defender could choose to ask for more money moving forward. Before both sides begin discussions on a potential extension or restructured contract, just know that Donald will likely still be undervalued compared to what his production has been since joining the Rams in 2014.

I do believe at some point in the future McVay does leave coaching in favor of accepting a job on television as a commentator or an analyst. But right after winning the Super Bowl at 36 years old, it’s tough to imagine that he’d just retire while the Rams have an opportunity to achieve even more in the coming years.

Amid all of the chaos involving McVay, there’s now a pretty good source — his fiancee — confirming that he’ll be back with the team entering the 2022 season. So everyone can put the retirement rumors to rest and focus on what they are going to do for six months until football returns.
