If the Los Angeles Rams’ ever-growing list of injuries feels familiar, that’s because they were in a similar situation two years ago during the 2022 season. That year, the offense was decimated by injuries, from Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp to Aaron Donald and Joe Noteboom.
The injuries up front were so bad that the Rams started 11 different offensive line combinations in the first 11 games, the first team since the AFL-NFL merger to have that many different combos to start a year.
Sean McVay said on the “Coach McVay Show” that this year feels similar to the challenges the Rams dealt with in 2022, but he feels better about this year’s team ability to navigate it.
“It feels similar to what some of the challenges that we navigated in the ’22 season but I think we’re better equipped to handle it in terms of, let’s worry about the things we can (control),” he said. “Let’s develop, let’s really focus on how we move forward instead of what we can’t do.”
The Rams already have nine players on injured reserve, six of whom are likely to return at some point this season. They can only activate up to eight players from IR this season, or 10 if they make the playoffs, so they’re approaching the limit after just one week.
It’s a long season but McVay is confident the Rams can overcome the jarring number of injuries suffered already – including the losses of Puka Nacua, Steve Avila, Joe Noteboom and Darious Williams.
