Sean McVay on losing Raheem Morris: ‘Happy and sad at the same time’

Sean McVay has grown accustom to finding replacements on his coaching staff, seemingly losing at least one assistant each offseason. He lost a big one on Thursday when the Atlanta Falcons hired Raheem Morris as their next head coach, causing the Rams to lose their defensive coordinator.

McVay has been pounding the table for Morris to get another head coaching opportunity, so he shouldn’t be the least bit surprised that Morris has landed one. However, that doesn’t make it any easier to lose a fantastic coach like Raheem.

McVay isn’t scheduled to meet with the media anytime soon so we won’t get his full thoughts on Morris’ departure for a little while, but he told Albert Breer that he’s “happy and sad at the same time.”

McVay and Morris have grown close over the years, going all the way back to their time on Washington’s coaching staff from 2012-2014. They had a great partnership in Los Angeles the last three years, winning a Super Bowl together, so it won’t be easy for McVay to replace not only the coach that Morris is, but the person.
