Sean McVay knows Rams can’t replicate Eagles’ unstoppable QB sneak: ‘It is unbelievable’

The NFL is a copycat league but one play that no one seems to be capable of emulating is the Eagles’ unstoppable quarterback sneak with Jalen Hurts. It’s not a traditional sneak, though. Hurts lines up under center and has two players behind him, who help push him into the end zone for what’s almost guaranteed to be a 1-yard gain every time.

The Rams haven’t tried it yet and it’s unlikely they ever will with Matthew Stafford as their quarterback. Sean McVay even admitted on the “Coach McVay Show” Monday that the Rams aren’t capable of replicating it, but if they did, they’d be running it a lot themselves.

“Whew, I don’t know that you can (replicate it),” McVay said, almost in disbelief of how good the play is. “Listen, if we could replicate that, man, we’d be running that a lot more, too. It is unbelievable. … The nuances, the fine-tuned details at which they’re able to execute that, it is something, isn’t it? I don’t know what we can replicate that.”

The question came up on the show because the Rams face the Eagles this Sunday and if Philadelphia ever gets into third- or fourth-and-1, we’re likely to see the patented “Tush Push” broken out at some point.

It’s a tough play to stop near the goal line, too, which is part of what makes the Eagles such a good red-zone offense. That, paired with the big-bodied receiving targets and Hurts’ mobility.

The Rams might try to run it in practice on the scout team just to get some reps against it, but there’s truly no emulating this play for teams outside of Philly.
