Sean McGinty relishes Morton boos as Ayr United skipper shines on Cappielow return

Sean McGinty admits he loved sticking it to the Morton boo boys as he led Ayr to victory at Cappielow.

The ex-Ton defender was superb as he inspired United to an important three points on Tuesday night.

And the Somerset skipper - who was on the scoresheet with a first half header - reckons the stick on his old stomping ground was more than worth it.

He said: "I had the third best defensive record in the league when I was here, so I'm not sure why they don't like me. But that's football isn't it?

"We got the points and that's all that matters.

"You know it's going to be a tough game coming here but from the first minute we were fantastic and we dominated.

"It's probably the most comfortable we've been in a long time and it puts us in a great place now ahead of Falkirk in the cup.

"It's a huge occasion for the players and a real good chance to reach Hampden so we will prepare properly and look to do the job up there."

McGinty also hailed marksman Dipo Akinyemi after the striker hit the 20-goal total for the season at Cappielow.

He said: "We did really well to hang on to him in the January window and he's back to his best now. He's absolutely flying again.

"He's an Ayr United player and we'd love to keep him in the summer but our main aim just now is targeting promotion and hopefully he can help us with that.

"I don't think anyone in the league can handle him and alongside Chris Maguire, Morton couldn't deal with the pair of them so it's exciting for us going forward."
