Sean Longstaff highlights crucial 'habit' instilled at Newcastle as competitive return looms

Sean Longstaff says the pair of victories against Al-Hilal and Rayo Vallecano have helped continue the 'winning habit' at Newcastle United.

The Magpies headed into the World Cup break with five straight league victories, and a further seven wins from eight games in the Premier League. Newcastle will have a Carabao Cup tie against AFC Bournemouth to contend with, before they return to Premier League action with a trip to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Boxing Day.

Longstaff scored as Newcastle prevailed 2-1 against Rayo Vallecano at St James' Park on Saturday, and he says the mid-season friendlies have helped maintain the winning feeling in the squad.

"Before the break we were winning a lot. I think it's a habit winning, whether it's in training, in friendlies or in proper games," Longstaff told NUFCTV. "You always want to win, you never want to lose. I think it's something that the management is trying to instil into us and we're buying into to it. Whether it's a friendly game or a league game, or a cup game, whatever it is. We're trying to take it as seriously as possible and trying to create the habit of trying to win."
