Rapper and singer Sean Kingston has waived his right to fight extradition in a California court and agreed to be turned over to authorities in Florida. Kingston, 34, along with his mother, is facing charges of committing more than a million dollars worth of fraud.
Kingston signed papers agreeing to skip extradition hearings and will be transferred to Florida from a Southern California jail. The Broward County Sheriff's Office will coordinate with the local authorities for his return.
The arrests took place after Kingston was apprehended at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California, where he was performing. His mother, Janice Turner, was also arrested on the same day during a SWAT team raid at Kingston’s rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The duo has been charged with conducting an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, identity theft, and related crimes. The arrest warrants allege that they stole money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture.
Kingston, known for hits like “Beautiful Girls” and collaborations with artists like Justin Bieber, is looking to address the charges in a Florida court. Their attorney expressed confidence in a successful resolution of the case.
The warrants detail that from October to March, Kingston and Turner allegedly stole significant amounts from various sources, including jewelry, banks, and car dealers. Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, was already on probation for trafficking stolen property.
Turner has a history of legal issues, having pleaded guilty to bank fraud in 2006 and serving time in prison. The case continues to unfold as the authorities work on the extradition process to move Kingston to Florida for further legal proceedings.
