Sean Fletcher's long marriage to successful TV boss and why he became fluent in Welsh in his 20s

Sean Fletcher is an American-English presenter who just happens to be a fluent Welsh speaker. While Sean may have been born in New York and grew up in England and Zimbabwe, he learnt our native language in his 20s.

Sean started speaking the language after meeting his Welsh wife Luned Tonderai, a successful TV producer, cinematographer, and director. Luned has worked on many popular shows, including BBC's Panorama, Countryfile and Channel 4's Gogglebox.

Sean found his first job in journalism in Cardiff, working for BBC Radio Wales and it is believed he and Luned met through work in 1994. They married in 1999 and have two children together- Lili and Reuben - with the family originally living in Cardiff before moving to London.

Sean promised Luned he would learn Welsh for their wedding day and her father is Welsh language academic Professor Robert Owen Jones who was awarded an OBE for safeguarding the Welsh language in Argentina.

Both their children speak Welsh and in a previous interview, he said: “I feel Welsh adopted. My identity is just me really. I fit into lots of groups but because there’s such a strong Welsh identity that makes it easier to buy into and I do feel part of that identity." You can read the rest of the interview here.

One of Sean's first breakthrough roles in TV was when he presented BBC Breakfast and in 2014 he joined ITV's Good Morning Britain team.

Since 2015 Sean has appeared on Countryfile and last year he presented an all Welsh-speaking show Terfysg yn y Bae on S4C. He has also presented BBC News, Sky Sports News and Sunday Morning Live during his career. You can read more Showbiz news here.
