Edinburgh enjoyed a comfortable victory over Bath last night in their second and final pre-season friendly, but senior coach Sean Everitt insisted his squad still have a lot of work to do before they take on the Dragons in their opening match of the URC campaign a fortnight today.
“We’re very happy with the result and there’s a lot of positives that came out of the game,” Everitt said after his team’s five-tries-to-one victory over the English club. “I thought our game management was really good, and so was our discipline in the first half, when we only conceded two penalties.
“We had set-piece dominance in the first half. Boan Venter, Paddy Harrison and Angus Williams combined really well. We dominated the scrum.
“The breakdown spoiled our momentum in the second half and we’ve got a bit of work to do there, specially from the physicality point of view. But all in all it was a good result for us.”
Back-row forwards Cameron Neild and Tom Dodd got the home team’s first two tries, then hooker Harrison scored the third with 25 minutes played. Captain Ben Vellacott then finished off the best score of the night after winger Jordan Edmunds broke from deep then kicked ahead. Cammy Scott’s three conversions made it 26-0 at the break.
In a second half played in worsening rainy conditions, centre Max Wright got an unconverted try. But substitute Mitch Eadie had the last word with Edinburgh’s fifth.
Meanwhile, Josh McKay will make his Glasgow Warriors comeback after a seven-month absence today in the friendly against Ulster in Cavan. The full-back has been out of action since early March, when his season was ended by a foot injury which required surgery.

Finally, Ayrshire Bulls went six points clear at the top of the Super Series table last night with a 28-0 bonus-point win over the Southern Knights at Millbrae. Second-placed Heriot’s have two games in hand and have a chance to close the gap today when they visit Stirling Wolves.
