Sean Dyche shares new Dominic Calvert-Lewin fitness update

Everton manager Sean Dyche was tight-lipped about Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s chances of returning against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The Blues’ number nine played an hour in the 1-0 win over Arsenal in Dyche’s first game in charge on February 4 but has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since making way after James Tarkowski’s goal secured the points that day.

Asked for an update on Calvert-Lewin’s status, Dyche said: “He’s recovering, getting stronger” and when probed as to whether he could feature at the City Ground, the Everton manager added: “We’ll see.”

The 51-year-old also batted off a question about how costly it was not getting a striker in the January transfer window, insisting it was “irrelevant” because “it’s gone” and he said: “I’m just working with the players we’ve got to maximise their potential, keep improving as a side, keep improving as a unit because that’s important anyway in football, you can’t rely on just one player anyway.”

When it came to Nathan Patterson and James Garner who stepped up their respective recoveries with a second outing in recent weeks for the pair for Everton’s Under-21s against PSV Eindhoven, Dyche said: “Patto is a little bit behind because he got a knock on his knee but he played 70 (minutes) last night. Jimmy came through it, he came off right near the end but it was only common sense so Jimmy is a bit closer than Patto.”
