Sean Dyche responds to Rangers job links as he makes Ross Wilson and Old Firm derby admission

Sean Dyche has broken his silence over links with Rangers should under fire Giovanni van Bronckhorst fail to turn things around.

The former Burnley boss - out of work for the last seven months - worked with and knows Ross Wilson well from his time at Watford and he has been named as a potential successor at Ibrox should a replacement hunt begin if a big call is made on the current boss. He took some of the heat off his shoulders last night with victory over Hearts but performances and results have been poor of late including dropped points at home to Livingston and defeat on the road at St Johnstone.

The 51-year-old believes he can still land a new role at England's top level but has confessed he may need to 'broaden his horizons' should no opportunities come his way. That could open the door to a move to Glasgow if the Light Blues are on the search at that point. Dyche was a guest on Jim White's talkSPORT show who read out a message from a caller who said he would personally drive the out of work gaffer to Rangers.

Responding to that, he said: “There is a window of opportunity [for the Premier League] and I think I’m still in it. People say I’ve been out of the game for seven months but when you consider there’s three months of a close season then it’s like four active months.

“I’ve got a window of possible opportunity in the Premier League. If it comes my way then brilliant, if not then I’ll have to broaden my horizons. I do know Ross Wilson at Rangers and if he’d like to invite me to the Old Firm derby – I’ve never been – then he should. I’ve heard so many stories and I’d love to do it. I worked with Ross at Watford.”

Van Bronckhorst declared the title race with Celtic as still ON as he delivered his post-match verdict after Malik Tillman's winner against Hearts.

He said: "I am happy. First I am happy for the team and club that we got three points. After that comes the manager because for me the club is always the most important thing. I am happy that we won the three points for this club.

"It's important to finish with a win and get the three points. We have a five week break before our first competitive game after the break. We can rest a bit, recover and prepare well for the second phase.

"A five week break is always good to have. Hopefully we can get some players back from injury and start fresh again against Hibs in the first game."
