Sean Dyche makes huge Burnley improvement claim following Chris Wood's Newcastle United move

Burnley have enhanced quality of their squad since selling Chris Wood to Newcastle United in January.

That's the view of Clarets boss Sean Dyche, who has praised the impact Wout Weghorst has had following his £12million switch from Wolfsburg on deadline day.

Wood became the Magpies' second signing of the transfer window but has failed to score in five appearances during his time at St James' Park so far.

Meanwhile, Weghorst netted his first Burnley goal in their 3-0 win at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend and has gained plenty of credit for his performances at the club.

And Dyche believes that Weghorst is 'one of the best professionals' he's ever seen and insists that he's added to the group after being directly involved in three of Burnley's last four goals.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "The hardest thing at the beginning of the season was statistically we created a higher quality of chance than we have ever created in the first 10 games. Yet we couldn't win games.

"Eventually you're going what do I need to change? If that production carries on you are going to score goals and therefore if you are scoring goals and keeping clean sheets you'll win games, so I didn't want to get carried away.

"We lost Woody, we were in the market anything for a variety of reasons. We are always trying to look for what we can find. We got Cornet in who has done well and we got Wout in who has so far has been an absolute credit to himself. He's been one of the best professionals that I've seen so far up close and personal.

"He's definitely added to his performance of the team with what he's offering us. So far, so good. But with these players, sometimes they hit the ground running, sometimes they take a bit of time.

"I don't want to overvalue their presence but they've certainly made a big difference to what we're trying to achieve this season."
