Everton were given a boost in their battle to avoid relegation this evening after Newcastle United's away win over Nottingham Forest.
Eddie Howe's side fell behind in the first half after a deft finish from Emmanuel Dennis, though issued a response on the stroke of half-time with an equally intelligent goal from summer signing Alexander Isak.
Newcastle thought they had taken the lead with 25 minutes to play when academy graduate Elliot Anderson found the back of the net, only for VAR to intervene and deny the 20-year-old a first senior goal for the club.

Refusing to give up their search of all three points, the visitors found a winning goal from the penalty spot in the 93rd minute after Forest defender Moussa Niakhate was penalised for handling the ball inside the area. Up stepped Isak, who sent Keylor Navas the wrong way for his second of the night.
This result ensures Forest remain just one point ahead of the Blues, having each played 27 Premier League matches this campaign. Sean Dyche's side could rise as high as 12th in the table tomorrow should they taste victory at Stamford Bridge and other results go their way.
