Disgraced rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is currently behind bars while awaiting trial for sex trafficking and more, and it looks like he’s desperate for some more screentime.
Combs is currently trying to get access to a laptop to use in his cell, a privilege his lawyer claims other inmates are allowed.
His lawyer Marc Agnifilo sent a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian requesting Combs be allowed to use a laptop while in his cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
“We write on behalf of Mr. Combs to request that the Court direct the MDC to provide Mr. Combs with the laptop for him by the government, and allow him to use that laptop on his unit, consistent with the way other inmates on his unit are permitted to use their laptops,” the letter reads, as per Deadline.
“Two months after he was charged and detained, on November 25, 2024, the government provided the MDC with a laptop that Mr. Combs can use to review discovery, take notes related to his case, and otherwise assist in his defence.”
According to the letter, Combs has been given two options for using the laptop. He can either use it in the video-teleconference room when the room is available and legal staff are present, or he can use it between 8am and 3.30pm in the legal visiting room.
Combs’ team isn’t pleased with these solutions, saying that it’s “untenable”.
“They significantly limit the time available for Mr. Combs to use the laptop and force Mr. Combs to choose between using the laptop and meeting with his attorneys (who often meet with Mr. Combs over video teleconference). There is also no justification for these restrictions,” the lawyer wrote.
Agnifilo also complained that whoever Combs meets with in connection with his defence should be kept private and not shared with the prosecution.
“Who Mr. Combs meets with in connection with his legal defence — including potential experts and investigators — is potentially privileged,” he said. “Even if not privileged, this level of surveillance offends due process and hampers his ability to prepare his defence.”
While Combs is fighting for access to a laptop, it looks like he will have some other luxuries as he celebrates his first Christmas behind bars, but it’s still a far cry from what the celebrity would be accustomed to.
According to Fox News, inmates will be allowed to compete in a three-on-three basketball tournament, football, and play games like dominoes and cards.
Combs will be served a meal that includes macaroni and cheese, a baked Cornish hen, cranberry sauce, rolls as well as a ‘holiday dessert’.
The musician is currently awaiting trial over charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
His trial date is currently set for May 5, 2025.
