Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Faces Additional Sex Trafficking Charges As Trial Looms

CONTENT WARNING: This article discusses alleged sexual misconduct.

Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing fresh legal trouble after federal prosecutors added two new sex trafficking charges to his indictment.

The updated allegations claim that Combs used force, fraud, or coercion to compel a woman — referred to as Victim-2— to engage in commercial sex acts between 2021 and 2024. The indictment also accuses him of transporting Victim-2 and others, including sex workers, across state lines for prostitution during the same timeframe.

These new charges bring the total against Combs to five, adding to the racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking allegations filed when he was arrested back in September.

Prosecutors say this case involves years of alleged abuse, manipulation, and exploitation of women, with Combs allegedly using his fame and influence to orchestrate these acts.

Combs, now 55, has denied all accusations and pleaded not guilty to the original charges. He remains in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre while awaiting trial, which is scheduled for May 5. His representatives have not yet commented on the latest developments, and his arraignment for the new charges has not been scheduled.

The case has drawn attention for its disturbing claims about events prosecutors call “Freak Offs,” where women were allegedly coerced into drug-fueled sexual performances with male escorts. According to prosecutors, these gatherings were elaborate productions facilitated by Combs’ associates.

One key piece of evidence cited in the case is a March 2016 video showing Combs hitting and kicking his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie, in a Los Angeles hotel hallway during one of these events. Prosecutors argue the footage highlights abusive behaviour tied to the alleged sex trafficking operations.

However, Combs’ legal team has pushed back against these claims. Alexandra A.E. Shapiro, one of his lawyers, previously argued that the government’s case is based on consensual relationships involving adults.

In a February court filing, Shapiro stated: “The government has concocted a criminal case based primarily on allegations that Mr. Combs and two of his longtime girlfriends sometimes brought a third party — a male escort — into their sexual relationship.”

She added: “Each of the three charges in the case are premised on the theory that this type of sexual activity is a federal crime.”

When the video was first released to the media in May 2024, Combs released an apology video to his social media with the caption, “I’m truly sorry.”

Ventura’s legal team released a statement in response to Combs’ video, calling it “disingenuous”.

Ventura took to her Instagram to speak on the matter herself.

“Thank you for all of the love and support from my family, friends, strangers and those I have yet to meet,” she began.

“The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning. Domestic violence is THE issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from the past.”

Friday’s superseding indictment marks the second time prosecutors have expanded their case against Combs. Back in January, they disclosed that their investigation involved at least three women who were allegedly forced into commercial sex acts by Combs in exchange for money, career opportunities, or housing expenses.

While his legal team continues to fight for dismissal of certain charges — including allegations involving transporting a male escort across state lines — the mounting accusations paint a grim picture of abuse spanning decades. Prosecutors claim Combs used blackmail, violence, and intimidation tactics like kidnapping and arson to silence victims and maintain control over them.

For now, the former rapper remains behind bars as these serious allegations continue to unfold.
