President-elect Donald Trump is set to announce the selection of Sean Curran, the current leader of his Secret Service detail, as the new director of the United States Secret Service, as reported by multiple sources familiar with the decision.
Curran has been in charge of Trump's security detail for the past four years and is known to have a close personal relationship with the incoming president. However, concerns have been raised about his lack of managerial experience to oversee an agency as vast and intricate as the Secret Service.
During his tenure on Trump's detail, Curran has supervised a team of approximately 85 individuals and has not previously managed the extensive budget or operations of the Secret Service. Additionally, he has never held a position at the agency's headquarters and is not a member of the Senior Executive Service, which consists of the highest-ranking officials within the service.
If appointed, Curran will succeed acting director Ron Rowe, who had expressed interest in the position following the resignation of Kim Cheatle after an assassination attempt on Trump's life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. Another incident involved a man in Florida setting up a 'sniper's nest' near Trump's golf club as part of an assassination plot.
