Seamus Coleman reveals Everton support for Vitalii Mykolenko after Russian invasion of Ukraine

Seamus Coleman has said everyone at Everton is rallying behind Vitalii Mykolenko as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues.

Ukrainian international Mykolenko joined the Toffees in the January transfer window and has found himself in a different country as his homeland comes under attack.

Everton have embarked on public displays of support for the 22-year-old, most significantly when the team emerged donning Ukrainian flags ahead of the clash with Manchester City at Goodison Park.

Club captain Coleman is currently away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland and he's said the players are doing what they can to offer the left-back the best support they can behind the scenes too.

"Myko, he’s a fantastic lad," he said. "He’s a quiet lad, he’s a really good lad. You can’t even imagine how he’s feeling. You’re there for him, you try and support him as best you can, you let him know that you’re there for him, the club are there for him, but you know his family and all are back there, so it’s very difficult for him.

"We’re there for him. I’m sure it’s hard for him to focus and do his job, but he is, he’s coming in training every day and doing what he can. He’s got the support of his team-mates, any little support that we can give him."

Mykolenko has made six appearances for Everton so far, including three in the Premier League. He signed for the Toffees from Dynamo Kyiv for a fee believed to be in the region of £20 million, replacing Lucas Digne who moved to Aston Villa later in the window.
