A seal in danger of becoming 'habituated to humans' could be flown to Scotland to save her life.
Spearmint, who arrived in Cawsand Bay, Cornwall, seven months ago, was rehabilitated at a young age.
Her interest in humans grew rapidly as she was being fed regularly by tourists.
Since then, she has been monitored closely by a team of volunteers who have been aiming to keep onlookers within a safe distance from her.
But, despite their efforts, Rame Wildlife Rescue Network and Rame Seal Team say after Spearmint discovered Plymouth, the feeding began once more and bad habits remained.
This has led to her putting herself and others at risk as she ventures onto roads due to being more comfortable with humans, Cornwall Live reports.
They have launched an online fundraiser to save Spearmint with the aim of raising £5,000 to cover the costs of flights.
In February, it was reported that as a result of people hand-feeding her, she has been left ‘very vulnerable’ to antisocial behaviour, physical harm, and dog attacks. There was anger after a photo surfaced of a member of the public grabbing and "cuddling" her.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue confirmed they had been monitoring Spearmint for a while and noticed she may have been suffering an eye infection. The RSPCA has since taken away Spearmint where her future is to be decided.
Writing on Crowdfunder, Jessica Collins who set up the fundraiser said: "Relocation is the best option as it would allow her to live a wild life, but this would have to be to a very remote location such as the Scottish Isles.
"There are questions about her welfare on such a long trip so flying would be a better option. This however would cost money so we need your help please.
"Another option would be for her to be taken to Seal Sanctuary but this would mean the rest of her life in captivity.
"There is still some uncertainty in her future and to ensure the RSPCA make an informed decision, knowing that this beautiful seal has the support and backing of a wonderful community who have grown to love her please donate to help cover these costs.
"All money raised will go towards providing Spearmint the Seal the best possible solution for her going forwards. Any left over money will be evenly divided between the RSPCA and BDMLR for their work with wild grey seals."
The cost of flying Spearmint to Scotland and relocating is estimated to be £5000. At the time of writing, it has £675 towards that total.
Jessica Collins added: "Any decision made about Spearmints future will be down to the RSPCA and BDMLR who are the lead organisations for this. We just hope that this gesture will help towards making the right choices for her.
"We estimate that the cost of flying Spearmint to Scotland and relocating would be £5000. We will amend the amount as we find out more information."
