Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett Said Coaches Will Probably Be Mad at Him Over Winning TD

Tyler Lockett is no stranger to delivering a big play for the Seahawks in a clutch situation.

On Sunday, the veteran wide receiver caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith, giving the Seahawks a 37-31 victory against the Lions and Seattle’s first win of the season. However, shortly after celebrating the game-winning score, Lockett told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that his coaches could potentially be mad at him for how he notched the final score of the contest.

Lockett secured control of the ball and turned for the pylon to give the Seahawks the touchdown. However, Lockett told Pelissero that his coaches stress to the wide receivers to never extend the ball for the pylon when seeking to get a touchdown.

While the two-time All-Pro receiver went against the rules, he was the key factor in Seattle’s win. In a Seahawks-Lions’ game that was an offensive shootout and included penalties where a referee had to remind a player he was “talking to America” while delivering the infraction, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll will appreciate the win versus a loss in Week 2.

Lockett finished the game with eight catches, 59 yards and two touchdowns. Seattle (1-1) will seek to add to its win total in Week 3 when the Seahawks face the Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
