Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett makes history in Week 1 win

Legendary Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett officially kicked off his 10th campaign with the franchise in Sunday’s 26-20 Week 1 victory over the Denver Broncos. And in typical Lockett fashion, he was effective despite entering the game with a questionable tag due to injury. The former third-round pick out of Kansas State recorded team highs in receptions (6) and receiving yards (77).

Lockett’s performance further etched his name in the team’s record books. On Sunday, Lockett became the second receiver in franchise history and 113th player in NFL history to reach 8,000 receiving yards. Seahawks PR celebrated his achievement via social media.

Lockett now has 8,071 receiving yards and counting. He trails just franchise legend Steve Largent (13,089) for first place on the Seahawks’ all-time receiving yards leaderboard.

The epitome of consistency, Lockett helped the Seahawks clinch the victory. Lockett made an outstanding one-handed grab on a third-and-6 with 1:48 remaining and the Seahawks nursing a 26-20 lead. Starting quarterback Geno Smith took three knees on the next three plays to run out the clock. Of course, the veteran wideout offered credit to DK Metcalf for running a clear-out route.

Lockett is an all-time great in Seahawks history. Yet another achievement on Sunday further reinforced his importace both in franchise history, while still proving his usefulness to the modern-day 2024 offense. Lockett will continue being critical to the Seahawks’ overall success this season.
