Seahawks right tackle Abe Lucas appears to undergo knee surgery

Whoever the Seahawks hire as their new head coach, one of their top priorities will need to be upgrading an offensive line that has been stuck between bad and mediocre for a very long time now due to a lack of resources. The most-difficult part of that project will be deciding what to do at the right tackle position.

On paper, Seattle has a very strong starter in third-year tackle Abe Lucas out of Washington State. However, Lucas has a chronic knee pain problem that kept him on the sidelines for more than half of the team’s 2023 season – Lucas only appeared in six games this year. In his absence right tackle became an eyesore on Seahawks film, with a trio of candidates (Jake Curhan, Stone Forsythe and Jason Peters) all performing poorly in his place.

Good news – it appears that Lucas is finally getting a surgery to address the issue. This Instagram story from his page seems to indicate so, anyway.

If Lucas can’t consistently stay on the field, the Seahawks will have to seriously consider trying to draft another franchise right tackle. Hopefully this procedure will keep him clear in the long run.
