Seahawks need these 2 players to step up as team captains in 2022

The Seattle Seahawks are trading Russell Wilson and releasing Bobby Wagner, marking a shift to a new era in the Pacific Northwest. We don’t know who will be starting for them at quarterback next season, but we do know this team is now in need of two new leaders.

Wilson and Wagner served as the team’s offensive and defensive captains during the 2021 season and were the foundations of those units. Keeping fullback/linebacker Nick Bellore around for continuity on a solid special teams group is a good idea, but the Seahawks now need to find two new captains for their 2022 roster.

There are other quality candidates, but we believe they should look to these two players for leadership.

Offense: WR Tyler Lockett

Lockett has been with the team since 2015 and in the wake of Wilson’s regression he’s become their most-consistent offensive player. With Wilson out of the picture and left tackle Duane Brown likely to follow, Seattle needs Lockett to step up and take on a more vocal role offensively.

Defense: SS Jamal Adams

Pete Carroll is unquestionably the face of the franchise again, but as far as the players go Adams has to take top billing. The organization has invested two first-round draft picks plus a ton of money in their hard-hitting, high-energy strong safety. Now they need him to play like an All-Pro consistently and begin quarterbacking the defense as well with Wagner gone.
