The Seattle Seahawks have found their next offensive coordinator. After firing former University of Washington Huskies play-caller Ryan Grubb following his lone season in the NFL, the Seahawks are officially moving in another direction. On Sunday, it was announced Seattle hired former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to their open position.
The Seahawks had three candidates for second interviews: Grant Udinski from the Minnesota Vikings, Hank Fraley of the Detroit Lions, and Kubiak himself. When it became known Fraley would be sticking around in Detroit for another season, the list obviously narrowed down. Now, it appears Seattle has their guy.
The #Seahawks are hiring Klint Kubiak as their offensive coordinator, sources tell The Insiders.
Coach Mike Macdonald went through a thorough and deliberate process. In the end, he went with the experience of Kubiak, who’s still only 37 as he takes his third OC job. pic.twitter.com/fPTeJhKSdk

Kubiak was the first offensive coordinator candidate the Seahawks interviewed in-person, and clearly became the one head coach Mike Macdonald honed in on. Macdonald claimed play-calling experience would not be a prerequisite for the job, but experience appears to have won out. Kubiak was the primary play-caller for the Saints last year, and for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2021 season.
Grubb was a first time offensive coordinator in the NFL and his inexperience was evident at times. Hiring Kubiak brings a bright young offensive mind into the mix but one who knows how to correctly call plays at the professional level. Kubiak, I assume, is also excited for the opportunity to work with a considerable upgrade at quarterback with Geno Smith, along with the embarrassment of riches Seattle has at their skill positions.
Not for nothing, 12’s, but congrats! You got the man you wanted! We at Seahawks Wire ran a poll about which candidate you’d want to be Seattle’s next offensive coordinator, and Kubiak finished in first place.
