The Seattle Seahawks, in their search for a new offensive coordinator, could employ a rather unusual tactic when it comes to the position. NFL insider Albert Breer is reporting the Seahawks are considering splitting the position between two coaches – a run game coordinator paired with a passing game coordinator.
As Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reminds us, this would not be the first time Seattle has gone down this particular path.
Per @AlbertBreer: #Seahawks considering split of offensive coordinator: A run-game coordinator (perhaps Lions OL coach Hank Fraley, after 2 interviews) and pass-game coordinator (perhaps Raiders’ Scott Turner)
They’ve done it before: Darrell Bevell/Tom Cable under Pete Carroll

However, mentioning Darrell Bevell and Tom Cable isn’t exactly the best example, as both coaches eventually wore out their welcome in the Emerald City from the 12th Man. Still, the concept is intriguing, especially when considering the Seahawks did not have a run game coordinator on staff in 2024. Perhaps part of Ryan Grubb’s struggles committing to the run stemmed from not having a second set of eyes to help out in that phase of the game.
Seattle has seemingly narrowed its search down to three options: Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley, Vikings assistant OC/quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski, and Saints OC Klint Kubiak. All three have received two interviews. Who knows, maybe two of these men will be paired together.
