The Seahawks found themselves a physical cornerback in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, selecting Illinois product Devon Witherspoon at No. 5 overall. Witherspoon sees himself as a great fit for Seattle.
“Just because they told me about the culture they have there, the Legion of Boom, and the history they have there,” Witherspoon told the media after his selection. “I know what it takes to be great like that. There is so much going on right now, I can’t even really describe it, but I am glad that they chose me. I’m just glad that I am going to be a Seattle Seahawk.”
A former basketball player, Witherspoon brings awareness to the field. He also knows how important tackling is to the game, especially to someone of his size and stature.
“Me, I would say that I am energetic, physical, I’m a dog on the field, and I’m just very confident in what I do,” Witherspoon said. “I’m passionate and I love to show my emotions out there on the field, so that describes me.”
