This 5th of November is not one the Seattle Seahawks or their fans are going to want to remember (remember). The Seahawks were bullied early and often in a humbling 37-3 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The 12th Man has been fortunate to not witness many blowout losses in the Pete Carroll era, but this was regrettably one of the rare occurrences.
The Seahawks tied the second worst defeat in the Pete Carroll era, trailing only the 42-7 loss to the Rams in the 2017 season. The only other 34-point loss Seattle has had during Carroll’s tenure was a 41-7 defeat to the New York Giants in 2010.
It was a colossal disaster on both sides of the ball. Offensively, things looked off from the first drive which ended on a three-and-out after JSN bobbled a pass. The first five possessions for Seattle went as follows:

- Interception
- Punt
The Seahawks almost had something cooking towards the end of the first half. They managed a quick field goal thanks to a 50-yard reception from DK Metcalf to set them up in Baltimore territory, then Tre Brown forced a fumble from Odell Beckham Jr. Unfortunately, the opportunity was over as quickly as it started, as Geno Smith lost the ball on a fumble after back to back sacks. The Ravens scored a field goal right before half, and things felt bleak.
Defensively, Seattle held on as long as they could. They kept Baltimore scoreless in the first quarter, and limited them to 17 first half points. But the dam broke in the second half, as the Seahawks allowed the Ravens four consecutive scoring drives, including two touchdowns. The only time Baltimore did not score was when backup Tyler Huntly took a knee on Seattle’s 5-yard line on 4th down, costing them a 300-yard rushing performance. They finished with “only” 298 rush yards.
It will be a long flight back to the Pacific Northwest for this Seahawks team that took it squarely on the chin. They fall to 5-3, and are still tied for first place in the NFC West, but will have to prepare to face a depleted Washington Commanders team. However, this won’t be a walk in the park, as the Washington football franchise has never lost a regular season game at Lumen Field.
Only time will tell if this was merely a result of playing a quality Ravens squad at the wrong time, or if it was Seattle getting exposed.
