The Seahawks held another low-key walk-through practice today as they prepare for their first preseason game of the year on Saturday.
Here are a few takeaways from today’s practice.
1
Pete Carroll, scout team QB
Seaawks coach Pete Carroll often functions as the scout team QB during these kinds of practices. This week that’s especially helpful since his game is probably about on the same level as Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph, anyway.
Carroll was reportedly in rare form today, once again proving age is only a number for some of us.
We can’t take video during walk-thru practices but man I wish y’all coulda seen Pete Carroll playing scout-team QB against the first-team D just now. Man was running play-action rollouts and everything. At 70 years old. That’s crazy lol.

Carroll later admitted it wasn’t his best stuff.
How's Carroll's arm feeling?
"I wasn’t on my best game today. I threw a lot of balls to the defense. I was nice to them. But it’s more than just the arm …"

Ken Walker ready to roll
One of the most interesting storylines to watch during the preseason will be the Ken Walker show.
With Rashaad Penny nursing another injury, we won’t have to wait long to see the first episode. Penny hasn’t officially been ruled out against the Steelers, but it’s safe to assume he won’t see any snaps. That paves the way for a bunch of work for Walker, who Carroll praised up and down today. Carroll particularly singled out his pass protection.

No matter how good Penny looked late last season, if he can’t stay healthy, Walker will take over this backfield and is unlikely to give it back.

Injury updates
In addition to Penny’s groin tightness, several other players are likely to be ruled out for Saturday’s preseason game in Pittsburgh.
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks has sat out the last several practices, defensive end L.J. Collier is nursing an elbow sprain and several different cornerbacks are down with varying ailments.
LB Jordyn Brooks is "real close" to returning from his hamstring injury, but is not yet practicing, meaning he's unlikely to play Saturday. Carroll said WR Freddie Swain's back tightened up on him a bit in the weight room yesterday.

Elsewhere, wide receivers Freddie Swain and Marquise Goodwin haven’t practiced the last two days and are also unlikely to play.
