There were some questions back in April when the secondary stacked Seattle Seahawks took defensive back Devon Witherspoon with the fifth overall pick. After Monday nights stomping of the New York Giants there is little question that the Seahawks made the right choice.
Witherspoon experienced a quintessential breakout game, and although he had been solid through his first few games he absolutely exploded onto the scene under some of the brightest lights. Witherspoon was a nightmare for Daniel Jones and the Giants offense as he was scattered all over the stat sheets. Witherspoon ended with night with seven tackles, two tackle for a loss, four pressures, and a pick-six to help seal the game.
With Tariq Woolen, Coby Bryant, and now Devon Witherspoon on the same roster the Seattle Seahawks might have sculpted a new edition of the ‘Legion of Boom’. If Witherspoon can keep up with his excellent rookie season and progress as the Seahawks expect, this defense could quickly rise to the top of the league. Witherspoon threw his hat into the ring for defensive rookie of the year, and you can expect it to stay there should this level of play continue for the rest of the season.
