Reese Waters was named event MVP, scoring a career-high 24 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 on free throws.

The San Diego State Aztecs (5-1) took the game into overtime for a second straight game, this time for a 76-67 win against the California Golden Bears (2-5) at the SoCal Showcase.

Jaedon LeDee had 19 points and Darrion Trammell scored nine on the night, but someone else led the Aztecs in scoring against Cal.

Reese Waters was named MVP of the event, after scoring a career-high 24 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 on free throws. Impressively, Waters hasn’t missed a free throw yet this season.

Waters was 4-for-4 from the line in overtime and SDSU collectively made 9 of 10 free-throw attempts in overtime to clinch the 76-67 victory.

The Aztecs were fresh off of winning the title belt at the 2023 Continental Main Event tournament, while Cal lost both of its games at the SoCal Classic tournament.

Jaedon Ledee made two free throws with 6:15 left to take a 63-54 lead, however SDSU did not score again in regulation. On Cal, Rodney Brown Jr. hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Fardaws Aimaq put down 3 of 4 from the line to tie the game with 1:42 left and forced overtime.

Waters made 6 of 11 shots from the field, including 2 of 3 from long range, along with his 10-for-10 from the line to lead the Aztecs with 24 points. Ledee’s 19 points included 7 of 10 from the line. The Aztecs collectively made 31 of 37 from the line.

Cal’s Jaylon Tyson made 9 of 21 from the field, including 2 of 10 from the arc to lead the Golden Bears with 23 points before fouling out. Fardaws Aimaq had a double-double, with a commanding 14 points and 18 boards.
