SCs, STs urged to fight for fundamental rights

Member of Legislative Council Shashil G. Namoshi has called upon people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to fight for their fundamental rights so that equal opportunity is provided to all sections of society. Babu Jagjivan Ram strove for the uplift of the downtrodden and the weaker sections of society, he said.

Inaugurating the 115th birth anniversary celebrations of the former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram organised by the district administration and Social Welfare Department in Kalaburagi, Mr. Namoshi said that Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram’s life and struggle should inspire one and all, his determination and efforts resulted in his rise to the position of Deputy Prime Minister.

Lauding the contributions of the leader, he said that Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram was Defence Minister when India won against Bangladesh and a new nation was created. When India was in the grip of a drought and there was shortage of foodgrains, Dr. Babu Jagjivann Ram, as Agriculture Minister, gave the slogan, Green Revolution, and pressured traders to bring out hidden grain from their godowns.

Praising the contributions of Dr. B.R Ambedkar and Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram, he called upon people to follow the ideologies of both these leaders.

Later, processions carrying a portrait of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram were taken out from different areas. They all culminated near the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue at the Town Hall, where the programme was held.

Deputy Commissioner Yeshwant Gurukar, Superintendent of Police Isha Pant, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dilesh Sasi were present.
