It hasn’t been the recruiting stretch that Ohio State envisioned, but they made up for some of it on Sunday evening as in-state cornerback Aaron Scott made his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes.
Not only was it a huge recruiting win for Ohio State, but the Buckeyes aren’t going to have to face Scott as one of his other finalists was Michigan. It’s a two-pronged win for Ohio State, keeping one of the best in-state prospects home and away from its archrival.

Scout’s view
It’s always impressive to see a corner who sees the game easily and can process it into making a play. Scott has those qualities. He’s a master at reading the quarterback’s eyes and then making a play on the ball. His football IQ is high as well, as Scott is constantly putting himself in the right position to make plays.

Scout’s view
Some cornerbacks don’t have a wide skill set, meaning they are great at man-to-man but struggle playing zone. Scott doesn’t have that issue. He can do it all as a corner. If he needs to come up and play press man, that’s not an issue. Scott is a complete cornerback.

Scout’s view
Most corners play the position because they don’t have the greatest hands, which isn’t necessarily the case with Scott. He makes some highlight reel interceptions, but that’s not all he can do. Scott does a great job of getting his hands on passes and breaking them up. He’s a PBU machine with the timing of his swipes at the ball showing as impeccable.

Scout’s view
Speed for a corner is extremely important because they have to be able to run with high-level receivers. Scott can do that. He might make a misstep here and there, but he uses his speed to make up for it and recover. Scott seemingly glides on the football field and knows when to turn on the speed.

Scout’s view
After the 2022 season that saw the Buckeyes go extremely thin at cornerback, they have addressed the issues in the past two recruiting classes. Scott is the highest-rated player coming in during that time frame, so him getting an early chance to play wouldn’t be surprising at all. Even if it is in a part-time role, which develops as the season goes on, Scott should see the field early. Expect a multi-year starter at corner for the Buckeyes.
