Scousers have their say on 'worst Prime Minister ever'

People didn't hold back when asked who was the worst Prime Minister of their lifetimes, and why.

Two names in particular kept cropping up again and again - Margaret Thatcher and the present incumbent Boris Johnson.

Mrs Thatcher has long been an object of hostility in Liverpool because of her policies in the 1980s, while Mr Johnson, meanwhile, has rarely been out of the headlines since becoming PM and started the new year embroiled in "Partygate" revelations.

By contrast, other PMs within living memory, such as John Major, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Theresa May barely rate a mention, apart from blanket dismissals of all recent PMs.

These were some of the many replies the ECHO received when we asked : "Who has been the worst Prime Minister of your life and why?"

Stephanie Victoria Pearson said: "Boris Johnson because he makes up his own rules."

Dot Stanley said: "Thatcher, she tried to destroy the north."

Sarah Mckay said: "Maggie first very closely followed by Boris."

Julie Smyth said: "Thatcher - destroyed entire towns and working class communities and left them to rot and ensured compliance from the workers by crushing union power and saddling people with years of mortgage debt via right to buy.

"Johnson - has normalised lying [...] in office.

"Take your pick [...] Cameron and May were almost as bad."

Michael Quigley said: "Thatcher a mile ahead with Boris [...] just behind."

Pam Macavoy said: "David Cameron for putting the women's working age up and the clown we got now."

Stuart Brown said: "Thatcher with Boris not far behind at all."

Louise Fisher said: "Thatcher; by a mile. I grew up in a mining town that was destroyed and became the heroin capital of the UK for many years. Lost classmates to drug overdoses, multiple generations without jobs etc."

Sue Lisney said: "Every Tory prime minister as they look after their mates and the rich."

John Wise said Tony Blair was his choice, adding that he believed Mr Blair was a "good PM" until "American politicians duped him" into sending British troops to war.

Glynis Parker said: "Thatcher, l really hated the sight of her and her politics."

Jacqueline Smith said: "Take your pick. Margaret Thatcher, David Cameron and Boris Johnson. They have all tried to bring Liverpool and the proud working classes down."

Simon Warner said: "Cameron for calling the referendum, Boris for lying about Europe and more lying now."
